Verbal bullying Like physical bullying, the goal of verbal bullying is to degrade and demean the victim, while making the bully look dominant and powerful. Verbal bullying includes name calling, insults, teasing, intimidation, homophobic or racist remarks. Verbal bullying can lead to low self-esteem, as well as depression. Verbal bullying can lead to very physical consequences. A victim, who is very depressed from verbal bullying, could turn to substance abuse or even suicide.

Relational aggression

The clinical population of aggressive children diagnosed as having an oppositional defiant disorder ODD or a conduct disorder CD is heterogeneous, both with respect to behaviour and aetiology. Recently, the following distinction has been proposed that might further clarify this heterogeneity: reactive aggression is an aggressive response to a perceived threat or provocation, whereas proactive aggression is defined as behaviour that anticipates a reward. In this article we examine various aspects of this distinction.
Adolescents today face many challenges with regard to both academics and peer groups. Unfortunately, one aspect of peer relations is aggression, and many times we often only think of physical aggression. However, relational aggression can also characterize the peer interactions of adolescents, and thus it has gained more attention in research.
