Essay on climate change and its challenges

More information
EPA issued two findings in December that are necessary precursors to regulating greenhouse gas emissions under the Clean Air Act. The first finding is that six greenhouse gases — carbon dioxide CO 2 , methane CH 4 , nitrous oxide N 2 O , hydrofluorocarbons HFCs , perfluorocarbons PFCs , and sulfur hexafluoride SF 6 — endanger the public health and welfare of current and future generations. The second finding is that emissions of these six greenhouse gases from new motor vehicles cause or contribute to the greenhouse gas pollution that endangers public health and welfare. Areas of climate economics research include economic analyses of regulatory policy instruments such as emissions trading, estimation of greenhouse gas reduction benefits, the role of uncertainty, and modeling the economic impacts of ocean acidification. Since the Supreme Court ruling that concluded CO 2 and other GHGs are pollutants, debate over policy approaches to addressing climate change has intensified in the United States.

Cause and Effect Essay Examples

The term 'climate change' refers to change in the longer term pattern of behaviour of the atmosphere over millennia or, more recently, as a result of natural processes or human activity. Climate is distinguished from weather, which is the specific behaviour of the climate at a particular time. Weather is made up of specific events, for example, a particular storm, the rainfall over a particular period, the temperature at a particular time. Climate is about expectations; weather is about events and conditions. Both weather and climate may refer to specific places or general areas, but whereas weather refers to actual time periods such as dates and times, climate refers to expected conditions in general time periods, for example, spring or summer, day or night, morning or evening.
